Southaven is home to the DeSoto campus of the University of Mississippi. Opened in 1996, the school works in close relation with local community colleges to offer students undergraduate courses in accountancy, business, criminal justice, education, health science, liberal arts, paralegal studies and social work. As a unique partner to the University of Mississippi and Northwest Mississippi Community College, UM-DeSoto offers a mix of academic and technical training for residents in Southaven. The university is joined by a number of educational opportunities located 14 miles away in Memphis.
For those seeking work, Southaven is a major retail hub. Global giant Kimberly-Clark has a distribution plant in town to help serve the needs of the regional population. SpringFest is fun for the whole family with attractions for people of all ages. Southaven is also home to the annual Taste of DeSoto, which features the best of local cuisine with proceeds going to charities like the American Liver Foundation, Impact Missions in Southaven and the Community Foundation of Northwest Mississippi.
