Carrollton's motto is "Where Connections Happen," a nod to its history as a center for transportation and trade. Distinguished by Money magazine and Relocate America as one of the most desirable places to live in America, apartment renters in Carrollton enjoy an excellent quality of life. With convenient access to the Dallas metropolitan area, affordable apartment prices, strong public schools and an extensive recreation and parks system, this community is a great choice for you and your family to find an apartment and establish roots.
The story of what is now Carrollton began in 1842, when a lone pioneer settled the area. By 1844, a mill was built, attracting more residents and providing jobs. When construction began on the Dallas-Wichita Railroad in the late 1870s, the town grew in importance and size. The town was incorporated in 1913 and grew rapidly after the end of World War II.
Today, the population of Carrollton is approximately 120,000, making it the 23rd most populous city in Texas. The city is home to many corporate headquarters, including those of Motel 6, TGI Friday's and Home Interiors and Gifts, Inc.
Young, single residents may enjoy local attractions, such as one of the many sports leagues that call the city home. These leagues include soccer, baseball and softball. If you're into fitness, you could go for a hike or jog at the Elm Fork Nature Preserve. While you're there, see if you can get a glimpse of a great horned owl or a snowy egret. The city also offers golf and tennis facilities through the Parks and Recreation Department.
Families with children will find plenty to do in town, including touring the A.W. Perry Homestead. You can get a glimpse of the pioneer homestead way of life that took place in Texas in the late 1800s through the early 1900s. Geocaching is another favorite family activity in the area. The parks system and nature preserve are the primary locations for this family-friendly adventure.
When you need to get around, a car is your best option for getting from the neighborhood where you rent to downtown. The city does not offer a mass transit or public transit system, but you can drive into Dallas and use the DART bus system to get around the city. Dallas also has an international airport, Dallas - Fort Worth International Airport, if you're taking a longer trip.
If you're a college student in the city, you can easily rent a place in the neighborhood close to campus for a convenient commute. The top three higher educational institutions in the area are Brookhaven College, Collin County Community College and the University of Texas at Dallas.
The economy in Carrollton is strong due to the variety of industries and companies providing jobs. The top three employers in the city include the Carrollton-Farmers Branch Independent School District, Halliburton Energy Services and G6 Hospitality LLC. Additional employers in the top 10 include those in healthcare industry, hospitality services and government.
