Living in Commerce, TX

According to City Town Info, Commerce's history began as early as 1872, when a pioneer merchant by the name of William Jernigin established a store in the area to make his way into the new trade route that came from the construction of the South Sulphur River bridge. A settlement began to slowly grow around Jernigin's store, and the city received its name because Jernigin's merchandise was sent to "commerce." Commerce was officially incorporated as a city in 1885, and it continues to observe strong economic growth today from its association with Texas A&M University.

Residents particularly appreciate a cost of living that is significantly less than the national average, with Commerce's index valued at 93.1, according to City-Data. The city sees approximately 234 days of sunshine per year, providing beautiful weather for residents year round.
