Situated on the south side of Houston, the neighborhood of MacGregor sits just east of the 288 and is a few miles north of the 610 loop. The last decade has seen the suburban sprawl of Houston reach far out beyond the confines of the city's major highways, but the area of MacGregor features a mixture of established homes and apartments for rent, as well as new apartment construction.

One of the interesting features of Houston and neighborhoods like MacGregor is that the city changes dramatically each mile. Houston is a very walkable city with its patchwork of sidewalk-laden neighborhoods, but several trendy neighborhoods and places for activities sit very close to or within MacGregor's borders. To the west of the community sits Hermann Park, which is home to The Houston Zoo, a golf range, a lake, and several other leisure pursuits.

If you're looking to get out for the evening instead of cooking at home, MacGregor has no shortage of standard chain restaurants, as well as some no-frills style local restaurants like Ray's BBQ Shack or the Chef Cajun Snack Shack. If you drive north of the neighborhood, you'll hit midtown, which is densely packed with trendy restaurants for Italian, Mediterranean, and Latin food.

You'll find that some apartments around MacGregor welcome pets while other communities prefer a pet-free atmosphere. Apartments at every price point offer pet friendly conditions, and the suburban feel that permeates much of MacGregor also creates a terrific environment for a morning walk with the dogs.

On the eastern side of MacGregor sits MacGregor Park, which is a terrific place to bring pets since it's a dog-friendly zone. After playing some Frisbee with Fido, you can hit the nearby tennis courts, swimming pool, or baseball diamond for some further outdoor activities.

Commuting In & Around Houston

Recent stories suggest the commutes around Houston are getting longer, and it's no surprise since the metropolis is growing outward into suburbia at a fantastic rate. Living near a major artery in Houston helps with commuting times, and MacGregor's quick proximity to the 288 should help anyone who needs to travel north into downtown for work.

If you're looking for some public transit to aid in your commute, you might not be that pleased with what Houston has to offer. The city covers miles upon miles of territory, and the spread-out nature of Harris County means that the best way to get around is in a car.

MacGregor Houston Schools & Education

Texas boasts some of the best high schools in the nation, and one of the best is in MacGregor. The DeBakey High School for Health Professions, and is on the west side of the community. The high school earned a national rank of #33 on a list from "U.S. News & World Report." The elementary and junior high schools around MacGregor operate under Houston ISD.
