Overview of Tanglewood

Renting an apartment in Tanglewood, Houston, TX, will have you rubbing elbows with some of the city's most prestigious residents. Among these is the 41st President of the United States, George H.W. Bush and his wife, Barbara, and Minister and best-selling author Joel Osteen. The neighborhood is located just west of the 610 Loop and about eight miles from downtown Houston.

Like most Houston suburbs, Tanglewood was once open prairie outside the city limits. Originally owned by the Humble Pipeline Company, the area was first developed in the late 1940s. Developers created a plan to take advantage of the then open spaces by designing large home parcels and planting trees on each. Today, the area ensures its ongoing curb appeal with planning guidelines.

As a result, Tanglewood is a quiet neighborhood that offers tree-lined streets and single-family homes on large tree-dotted lots. It is decidedly upscale, but convenient to not only downtown but the vibrant Galleria-Uptown as well. The area has a range of apartments, lofts, condos and townhomes for rent in addition to large single family homes.

Tanglewood Lifestyle and Entertainment

Tanglewood offers an exclusive and somewhat luxurious lifestyle for the successful and well-established. Part of the Galleria-Uptown District, Tanglewood is close to a wide variety of cafes, taverns, restaurants and destination dining. Uptown also offers a vibrant nightlife for club hopping. No matter your mood, you're sure to find something entertaining to do.

When it comes to shopping, the nearby Galleria Houston is a destination all its own. The fourth largest mall in the country, Galleria Houston boasts 375 stores, boutiques and restaurants, as well as an ice rink. It is anchored by top names in retail therapy, including Neiman Marcus, Saks Fifth Avenue, Dillard's, Nordstrom and Macy's. This mecca for Houston's well-heeled shopper has shops from top names like Tiffany and Co., Louis Vuitton and Ralph Lauren. A new outdoor shopping plaza, Uptown Park, offers a new spin on shopping with a combination of boutiques and outdoor cafes for people watching.

The Tanglewood Rental Market

Rental apartments in Tanglewood tend to be luxury affairs in high rise towers. A one-bedroom unit in such a building can range from about $1,600 to $3,500 a month for up to 1,300 square feet with all the amenities. Tanglewood-adjacent rentals are a bit more affordable with monthly rents starting at about $1,000 a month. The area also offers a select number of loft, condo, townhome and single-family home rentals. Tanglewood has residents of all ages, but is most popular with established families, and 30- and 40-something professionals. Commute times to downtown are a reasonable 20 minutes.
