Texas City is located within Galveston County along the Gulf Coast, approximately a one hour's drive southeast of the bustling city of Houston. Living in Texas City, TX

Texas City's history goes back to 1854 when the U.S. Government constructed a lighthouse at the base of what is known today as the Texas City Dike. In 1893, two major events occurred that contributed to the development of the city: the Texas City Post Office was opened and a railroad link was established.

The city was incorporated in 1911, and residents in Texas City apartments and other homes came out to celebrate the city's centennial anniversary in 2011. Notable events occurred in the decade beginning in 2001, contributing to the quality of life for Texas City residents including the opening of the Sanders-Vincent Community Center, the construction of the Matthew T. According to the city website, Texas City has survived a number of disasters, including the explosion of the S.S. Grandcamp and S.S. High Flyer in 1947, two world wars in which it played a significant role, two economic depressions and at least five major hurricanes.

Students can take advantage of higher educational facilities, including the College of the Mainland. The COM was established in 1966 and enrolls roughly 3,900 credit students with an additional 1,050 continuing education students yearly. The most recent addition to the school occurred in 2003 with the construction of a 7,500-square-foot learning center.

The data further indicated that roughly 43.7 percent of all renters reported spending 35 percent or more of their household income on gross rental costs.

City-Data information stated that in March 2012, the cost of living in Texas City was 91.7 points, which is 8.3 points less than the national average of 100 points.

Texas City Attractions and Special Events

People living in Texas City apartments have a variety of attractions available for their enjoyment. The Texas City Museum is one popular attraction. The Texas City Museum is supported by the city and moved to its current location in 1994. The museum is a great spot for residents and visitors to explore the past, present and future of their city.

The Bayou Golf Club, another popular attraction, opened in 1974 and is part of Texas City's parks expansion program. The site sits on 200 acres on the bank of Moses Bayou and is known for its championship layout.
