Old Town is a neighborhood located on the Potomac River waterfront in the historic center of Alexandria, Virginia. The city was originally part of Washington, D.C. and was a major port during colonial times. Alexandria is perhaps most well known for being the hometown of George Washington. The station is located on the Metro yellow and blue lines, which connects to the Pentagon, L'Enfant Plaza and Gallery Place metro stations within minutes. The King Street Trolley provides free trolley service throughout Old Town and operates from the King Street Metro station to the waterfront, stopping every two blocks. In addition, the Alexandria Transit Company's DASH system operates service throughout Alexandria and provides connections to MetroRail and all local bus systems.
Old Town Alexandria is in the Alexandria City Public School district. There are three local elementary schools, which are the public Jefferson-Houston Elementary School, the public Lyles-Crouch Traditional Academy, and the private St. Mary's Elementary School. The community is also just a few miles from the George Washington University satellite campus.
