Connell, Wash., is a small city in southeastern Washington that offers great opportunities for any individual or family looking for a rural lifestyle. Located in Franklin County, Connell is home to approximately 5,300 residents. Although Connell is located in the heart of Washington's awe-inspiring Palouse Hills region, residents here enjoy worldly activities like world-class murals, delicious local beer and wine tastings, and rich heritage exhibits. If you're looking at Connell apartments for rent, you'll be sure to find an affordable option to fit your needs.
Originally called Palouse Junction, Connell was first settled after the Northern Pacific Railroad created a branch rail line here in 1883. While residents feared that the town may become a ghost town after the railway discontinued service for a few years, the city rail service was reinstituted in 1901, around the same time the city was renamed Connell in honor of a railroad employee.
Today, Connell's livelihood is more aptly based around agriculture than the railroad, yet residents of the area find employment in many fields of work. Some of the area's top employers include Coyote Ridge Correctional Facility, located in Connell, as well as cattle feed provider J.R. Simplot Company and HAPO Credit Union.
Connell is a small town full of well-aged charm. One of the most popular attractions in town is the Sunset Theatre. Built in 1952, Sunset is a beautiful one-screen theater that has a classic marquee.
With the Palouse Hills as their backyard, many Connell residents enjoy spending time in the great outdoors. One of the area's best attractions is the Hanford Reach National Monument/Saddle Mountain National Wildlife Refuge. The monument/refuge is the first of its kind of protected land, and encompasses the 195,000 acres of shrub-steppe habitats and riparian wetlands.
