Looking to make a new neighborhood in Milwaukee your own? If you're the kind of person who enjoys getting to know an area through its people and culture, Milwaukee's lakefront neighborhood in downtown is ideal for you. There are affordable 3-bedroom apartments for rent in the area that are perfect for families or housemates looking for both plenty of living space and an invigorating atmosphere.
The lakefront district of Milwaukee's downtown is one of the city's most beautiful. It's just south of Juneau Town and a little north of the Historic Third Ward neighborhood, with which it shares classy apartments that are great for small families or roommates. If you've got a car or two, this neighborhood is ideal. You'll find plentiful street parking, but if you need a more permanent solution or don't plan on taking your car out daily, there are above and below-ground parking options as well.
Are you the type of young professional who loves celebrations, street fairs and festivals? Then the lakefront area of downtown is for you.
Milwaukee earned its nickname, the "City of Festivals," because it's home to some of the biggest and best events in the country. Festival season usually kicks off the week before Memorial Day and runs through Labor Day - and most of them are right in your neighborhood, making them easy to walk to!
Many of Milwaukiee's festivals are ethnic-themed events, covering a large range of cultures including Polish, Irish, Italian, French, German, African, Arab and Mexican - so expect a lot of delicious foods and fascinating traditions. There are also a number of LGBT festivals held during the summer, many of which are held in Maier Festival Park. Street festivals are almost always going on and are open to the public. You and your friends can enjoy baguettes and brie during Bastille Days, Milwaukee's four-day French festival, which cordons off six-blocks of food vendors, costumed parades and specialty shopping. There's even a giant Eiffel Tower constructed in the middle of downtown! Or check out the food, music and art-filled 2-day Brady Street Days on Brady St., just north of your new neighborhood. You'll also enjoy the Historic Third Ward's art festival, which comes together annually on Labor Day weekend.
Many of the city's biggest festivals happen in Henry W. Maier Festival Park, right in the lakeside area of downtown. Down the street from your new apartment for rent, you'll find Polish Fest each June. Here, you'll find the non-stop polka stage, cooking demonstrations and table after table of vodka tastings. Or if pasta and gondola rides are more up your alley, check out Festa Italiana in July - once again held right down the street at Maier Festival Park. There'll be good wine, great food and even a little opera - with the requisite jazz and rock thrown in for good measure.
